Since the integration of elderly care, health and nursing care, and pediatric nursing into a generalist nursing profession, practical instruction has become a central element. According to the PflBG, at least ten percent of the training time is specifically dedicated to practical instruction.

Our 300-hour continuing education program develops essential competencies for effective practical instruction, rooted in the roles and professional understanding of instructors. A concept-oriented approach underpins the implementation. However, our platform offers more than just knowledge – it creates a connected community for future exchanges among practical instructors.

Our Practical Instructor Continuing Education is aimed at nursing professionals who, according to § 4 of the Nursing Professions Training and Examination Ordinance, hold a completed nursing education and a corresponding professional license according to the Nursing Professions Act, the Elderly Care Act, or the Health Care Act. If you have at least one year of professional experience, we warmly welcome you. In our supportive environment, you can not only enhance your expertise as a practical instructor but also actively participate in shaping the future of nursing. Description


This continuing education program offers an intensive learning experience that allows you to develop your skills within a structured timeframe. The program spans six modules, each comprising 40 hours per month. The modular monthly start allows you to enter the program flexibly and adjust your learning pace.

The education is conducted in-person and includes a total of 300 teaching units, divided into six modules. Within these modules, you are required to complete at least 24 hours of observation in your own facility to apply what you have learned directly in your professional environment.

The classes are held in 5-day blocks once a month, with each block running from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This structured schedule allows you to fully focus on learning while also gaining practical experience.

The introductory module provides a comprehensive introduction to the world of nursing education. It covers fundamental expectations, requirements, and legal frameworks within the context of the Nursing Professions Act, prepares you for the role of a practical instructor, and lays the foundation for a solid understanding of competencies in this field.

  • Module I - Foundations of Nursing Education: Self-Reflection, Expert Knowledge, and Leadership Skills

    The module focuses on self-reflection and awareness of individual learning needs. It emphasizes the continuous updating of professional knowledge, explores various leadership styles, and imparts fundamental didactic and pedagogical principles essential for effective nursing education. The module provides a comprehensive overview of the foundations of processes and structures in nursing education. It includes information on role understanding, team and organizational structures, as well as relevant aspects such as the framework training plan and the onboarding process.

  • Module 2 - Communication Expert: Conversation Techniques, Conflict Management, and De-escalation in Nursing

  • Module 4 - Nursing Pioneers: Developments, Examination, and Teamwork

    The module is dedicated to the dynamic development of trainees and practice instructors in nursing. It highlights the challenging transition from practice instructor to the role of specialist examiner and discusses the multifaceted practice support in inter- and intraprofessional teams, which plays a central role in the nursing environment.

  • Module 5 - Nursing Competence in Focus: Perception, Motivation, and Cooperation

    The module explores the diverse areas of perception in nursing and delves into motivation theories that serve as significant drivers in this field. It highlights the complexity of cooperations and their underlying responsibilities, while also addressing the challenges and opportunities of work and learning tasks in the development of nursing competencies.

  • Module 6 - Legal Foundations of Nursing Education: Guidelines, Responsibilities, and Protective Measures

    The module provides an in-depth examination of the legal aspects of nursing education. It explores the specific legal facets related to clinical instructors, the fundamental principles of nursing law, and the context and implications of the Nursing Professions Act (PflBG). Additionally, it addresses supervisory duties, occupational and health safety, data protection, youth protection, and adherence to guidelines and framework plans in nursing.

  • Scientific Competence in Nursing: Evidence, Standards, and Research Methodology

    The module focuses on the scientific foundation of nursing education. It explores the principles of evidence-based nursing, highlights various reference sciences and standards that form the basis for effective nursing practice. Additionally, it places a special emphasis on the implementation and integration of current scientific findings and underscores the importance of reliable literature sources and a sound research methodology, stressing that 'Google' is not a primary source.

  • Conclusion

    The final examination includes the preparation of a written paper on a randomly assigned topic as well as an oral examination. This is supplemented by a practical exam, which involves an individual instruction situation with a trainee. This holistic examination methodology allows for a comprehensive assessment of both theoretical knowledge and practical skills and competencies..

Access Requirements


Practice instructors must, according to § 4 of the Nursing Professions Training and Examination Ordinance (PflAPrV), have at least one year of professional experience and a professional license according to the Nursing Professions Act (PflBG), the Elderly Care Act (AltPflG), or the Health Care Act (KrPflG).
